Frequently asked questions

What is The Pressing Report?

The Pressing Report is a free weekly email newsletter about vinyl, published every Friday for record lovers around the world. Each issue covers the new releases and reissues worth buying that week, from any country and any genre, plus new turntable and audio tech, DJ news and gear, stories about the people behind the records, and a record shop spotlight from anywhere in the world.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. The newsletter is free and paid for by clearly labeled sponsors and affiliate links.

When does it come out?

Every Friday morning (Pacific Time, so Friday afternoon in Europe and Friday night in Asia). Every issue is also published on the web at pressingreport.com/issues/.

Do you only cover all-analog or audiophile pressings?

No. We cover every kind of pressing: all-analog (AAA) cuts, records mastered from digital files, half-speed masters, budget represses, colored variants and brand-new albums. A digital source is fine. We just tell you what's in the chain when it's been published, so you can choose the edition that suits you.

How do you describe a pressing?

We look for published facts: the source (analog tape or a digital file), the mastering or lacquer-cutting engineer, the pressing plant, the vinyl weight and speed, and reputable reviews. If none of that has been published, we say 'pressing details not yet confirmed' instead of guessing.

What does AAA mean on a vinyl record?

AAA (all-analog) means the record was made from analog tape, mastered on analog gear, and cut to lacquer with no digital step. A chain like tape → DSD → lathe, or a high-resolution digital master, can sound excellent too; it just isn't AAA.

What is a One-Step pressing?

One-Step (for example MoFi's UltraDisc One-Step) skips the usual three-step plating process and presses records straight from the first-generation 'convert' made from the lacquer. Fewer generations means less noise, but each set of parts yields far fewer copies, so these runs are small and numbered.

Do you cover record shops and releases outside the US?

Yes. The Pressing Report is worldwide. Every issue includes a shop spotlight that can be anywhere in the world, and we cover releases, labels, pressing plants, DJs and events from the UK, Europe, Japan, Australia, the Americas and beyond. Prices are shown in the currency the seller lists.

Can my record shop be featured?

Yes. Our weekly shop spotlight is unpaid and open to independent record shops anywhere in the world, especially new openings, moves and anniversaries. Email [email protected] with your shop's name, city and website.

Are your links affiliate links?

Some are. When we earn a commission it never changes the price you pay or which records we pick. See our affiliate disclosure.
